The South American clay-court swing on the ATP Challenger Tour continues this week with the second edition of the Punta Del Este Open. Top seed Federico Coria secured his spot in the quarterfinals the tournament being held at the Cantegril Country Club in Punta del Este, Uruguay.

Currently ranked 96th in the world, Coria claimed victory in just 68 minutes and will face US-American Emilio Nava next for a place in the semifinals. Nava defeated sixth-seeded Argentine Roman Andres Burruchaga 6-1, 6-4.

Third seed Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Argentina’s Facundo Mena. Meanwhile, Peruvian Gonzalo Bueno overcame Bolivia’s Murkel Dellien 7-6(4), 6-3.

The remaining quarterfinal spots will be decided on Thursday. Matches include Carlos Taberner versus France’s Gabriel Debru, Marco Trungelliti against Juan Bautista Torres, Lautaro Midon facing Genaro Olivieri, and Tomas Barrios Vera playing Max Houkes.

In the doubles draw, Uruguay’s Ignacio Carou remains the only local player in the tournament. Teaming up with Hugo Dellien of Bolivia, he will face the Huertas del Pino brothers, Conner and Arklon, in the quarterfinals.
