Following the conclusion of the Australian Open, the ATP Challenger Tour continues its stay in Australia, offering the tennis professionals another chance to shine. Marek Gengel from the Czech Republic advanced to the final of the 2025 Brisbane QTC Tennis International, being held this week at the Queensland Tennis Centre, with a strong 7-6(4), 6-3 victory over sixth-seeded Australian Omar Jasika on Friday.
The 29-year-old Radovnik native capitalized on two of his seven break-point chances and won 83 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 43 minutes.
The second semifinal between Australians Tristan Schoolkate and Adam Walton was a long fought battle with Schoolkate taking the win in a third set tiebreak, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(5). Schoolkate, No. 2 seed of the $100,000 hard-court event, struck 20 aces and won 78 per cent of his first-service points to succeed in two hours and 33 minutes.
Romios/Sinclair triumph in doubles
The doubles final saw Matthew Romios from Australia and Colin Sinclair of the Northern Mariana Islands prevail over home favourites Joshua Charlton and Patrick Harper, winning 7-6(2), 7-5 to lift the trophy.
The pair securing their victory in straight sets to an international audience with Sinclair’s family hailing from Northern Mariana Islands in attendance. Romios and Sinclair split $4,980 in prize money and collected 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
