Dalibor Svrcina of the Czech Republic and US-American Brandon Holt will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the PMRDA Powered Maha Open.
Svrcina benefited from the retirement of Khumoyun Sultanov from Uzbekistan on Saturday. The 22-year-old Ostrava native was leading 6-7(8), 6-0, 3-1 when Sultanov was forced to stop playing due to respiratory complaint.
Holt defeated eighth-seeded Canadian Alexis Galarneau 7-5, 6-4. The No. 6 seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 100 hard-court event in Pune, India sent down six aces and won 82 per cent of his first-service points to advance in one hour and 34 minutes.
Indian top seeds triumph in doubles
Later in the afternoon, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth captured the doubles title. The top seeds from India fought past second-seeded Australians Blake Bayldon and Matthew Christopher Romios 3-6, 6-3 10-0 in one hour and 17 minutes.
Nedunchezhiyan and Prashanth earned their first team title of the season. They split $7,960 in prize money and collected 100 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
