Nikola Basic advanced to the second round of the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 event in Rovinj on Tuesday, the second of three competitions in the 53rd edition of the Istarska Rivijera tournament series in Istria. In the first round, the 23-year-old Croatian defeated 23-year-old Bosnian wild card entry Nemanja Malesevic, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
To reach the quarterfinals, Basic will face the winner of the match between two Ukrainians, Nikita Mashtakov and Viacheslav Bielinskyi, who is seeded third.

On Tuesday, the final round of qualifications also took place, where Deni Zmak was eliminated. He was defeated by the top seed in qualifications, Serbian Marko Maksimovic, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
This was the first of two victories on Tuesday for Maksimovic against Zmak. In the opening round of the doubles competition, Maksimovic, alongside his fellow countryman Dusan Obradovic, won 3-6, 6-0, 10-5 against Zmak and Kajin, who were finalists in Porec last week.
