HOUSTON/STARNBERG, April 4, 2025
For the second consecutive day, US-American players dominated the courts at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship, with all four singles winners on Thursday hailing from the United States. With these victories, this year’s tournament becomes the first in the Open Era to feature an all-US-American quarterfinal lineup — a historic feat for U.S. Clay.
Beyond Houston, this marks the first time since Orlando in 1991 that an ATP event has seen all eight quarterfinalists representing the United States. The milestone ensures that a US-American will lift the singles trophy this week — the first ATP Tour singles title of the 2025 season for Team USA.
Among Thursday’s standouts was No. 2 seed Frances Tiafoe, the 2023 US Clay champion and 2024 finalist, who continued his strong form at River Oaks by securing his eighth win in his last nine matches at the event.
Alex Michelsen, the fifth seed and just 20 years old, advanced to his 12th ATP Tour quarterfinal — and his second on clay. He also became the youngest US-American quarterfinalist in Houston since Taylor Fritz in 2018.

Fourth-seeded Brandon Nakashima returned to the US Clay quarterfinals for the second consecutive year, while 28-year-old Christopher Eubanks celebrated a personal milestone by reaching his first-ever ATP quarterfinal on clay — and notching just his third career win on the surface.
