Eva Lys, Germany’s best women’s player, has been named a Porsche “Friend of the Brand.” It means Lys, a Ukrainian-born German who is based in Hamburg and currently ranked World No. 68, and Porsche have intensified their partnership.

The 23-year-old Lys, who turned pro in 2016, is a former member of both the Porsche Junior Team and the Porsche Talent Team, which has helped her prepare for the challenges of a professional career on the WTA Tour.

“I’m incredibly honored to join the Porsche family, a brand that embodies so many things that I love: performance, precision and elegance,” Lys said Monday in an interview with the Porsche Sports Communications team. “As I continue to push the limits on court, it’s great to be supported by a company that shares the same drive for excellence.”

Porsche has been closely connected tennis-wise with Lys for years now, according to Dr. Sebastian Rudolph, Vice President for Communications, Sustainability and Politics at Porsche AG. “We’re delighted that Eva Lys will now be competing as a Friend of the Brand. We will be keeping our fingers crossed for her at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix,” he said in a statement.

Lys is making her second appearance in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix main draw this week, after receiving a wild card entry into the 2022 event. She celebrated her first main-draw win in Porsche Arena (over then-No. 38 Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland) three years ago and reached the second round before losing to eventual champion and former World No. 1 Iva Swiatek of Poland.

This year, Lys, who reached the fourth round at the Australian Open as a lucky loser in January and has compiled a 12-9 win-loss record in all competitions, is one of four Germans who were awarded wild cards into the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix main draw. She will face World No. 6 and fifth seed Jasmine Paolini of Italy in a featured first-round match on Centre Court inside Porsche Arena Tuesday evening, not before 6:30 p.m. (CET). Earlier in the day, 95th-ranked Laura Siegemund, who won the 2017 title, will play No. 121 Jule Niemeier at 5 p.m. in an all-German matchup.

“Competing against the best,” Lys said, ” is enormously motivating for me.”
