World No. 90 Alexandre Muller of France produced an impressive comeback against 20-year-old Italian Carlo Caniato, turning the match around from 6–4, 4–2 down to win 4–6, 7–6(5), 6–4, despite a brief rain interruption. Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic also battled through a tough contest, defeating Greece’s Stefanos Sakellaridis 6–4, 3–6, 7–5 after two hours and 34 minutes.
Amid the success of the top seeds, Italian tennis also had reason to celebrate. Qualifier Enrico Dalla Valle, currently ranked No. 475, advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating local favorite Lorenzo Giustino in a hard-fought match, 4–6, 6–4, 6–1. Dalla Valle will now face top seed Altmaier in one of the most anticipated matches of the next round.
Alongside Dalla Valle, three more Italian players will be in action. In the top half of the draw, an all-Italian clash will see qualifier Michele Ribecai take on rising talent Federico Bondioli, who is enjoying the best tournament of his young career.
In the bottom half, a high-profile showdown awaits between two of the day’s winners, third seed Muller and fifth seed Medjedovic. Meanwhile, special attention will be on one of the tournament’s most popular players, 18-year-old Federico Cina, who will open the day on the “Carlo D’Avalos” court against Ukraine’s Vitaliy Sachko, with a place in the semifinals at stake.
