CAMPINAS/STARNBERG, March 31, 2026
Matheus Pucinelli, one of the players most eagerly anticipated by the local crowd, is set to return to competition at the Copa Internacional de Tenis de Campinas, which will be held from April 5 to 12 at the Sociedade Hipica de Campinas.
The 24-year-old from Campinas is returning to the circuit after spending nearly two months sidelined while recovering from an injury. His last appearance came for Brazil in the Davis Cup tie against Canada, where he delivered a strong performance before narrowly losing a closely contested match.
Now Pucinelli will make his comeback at home, in what is considered Brazil’s most traditional tennis tournament, hoping to draw energy from the support of friends, family, and the local fans.
“I was out recovering from an injury, and it is always a pleasure and a great feeling to compete at home and have friends and family nearby supporting me,” Pucinelli said. “It is a unique energy when the stands are full. Campinas, because of its tradition, always brings in a lot of people who follow tennis, and I always try to make the most of that atmosphere. I will be coming back from injury, but I hope to use the crowd’s energy to get back into rhythm in the best way possible.”
Brazil will once again have a strong presence in the draw, with several players arriving in excellent form. Among them is Gustavo Heide, who comes to Campinas after winning the doubles title last Sunday in Sao Paulo alongside Guto Miguel at the LA Open.
Another Brazilian expected to contend is Joao Lucas Reis, currently ranked No. 218 in the ATP Rankings and runner-up in doubles in Sao Paulo. Reis, who has already spoken about the special atmosphere and family support at Brazilian tournaments, joins Pedro Boscardin among the home favorites, all chasing the 75 ATP Ranking points awarded to the champion.
Meanwhile, Thiago Seyboth Wild will no longer compete in Campinas, as he is still recovering from injury and requires a few more weeks before returning to the tour.
Tournament organizers have also awarded a main-draw wild card to another local player, 22-year-old Enzo Lima, who trains at the Sociedade Hipica de Campinas. Lima has been working to establish himself on the professional circuit and already showed his potential in last year’s edition of the tournament, when he came through qualifying to reach the main draw. He now returns with more experience and another opportunity to play in front of his home crowd.
