The Portoroz Open – third ITF World Tennis Tour – WTT series tournament of the season in Slovenia concluded last week with an all-Spanish final, where Sara Sorribes Tormo delivered a commanding performance to defeat Leyre Romero Gormaz 6-4, 6-1 and claim the title.

Sorribes Tormo, who entered the event through qualifying, showcased her experience throughout the week. Once ranked as high as world No. 32, the 29-year-old Spaniard has been working her way back up the rankings and will take significant confidence from this victory, which continues her strong run of form following her recent Billie Jean King Cup appearance.

The final itself featured two Spanish internationals who had recently faced Slovenia in the Billie Jean King Cup. However, it was the more seasoned Sorribes Tormo who controlled the match from the outset, securing a straight-sets win to cap off an impressive campaign.

Among the home players, Polona Hercog produced the best result by reaching the quarterfinals. Dalila Jakupovic exited in the second round, while Pia Lovric and Alja Senica were both eliminated in the opening round. Notably, 17-year-old Senica pushed eventual finalist Romero Gormaz to three sets, highlighting her potential despite the defeat. Lovric also impressed in doubles, reaching the semi-finals.

Tournament director Lara Jerse expressed satisfaction with the overall event despite challenging weather conditions, emphasizing the positive feedback from players and the high organizational standard. She highlighted the final as a fitting conclusion to the week, praising Sorribes Tormo for backing up her strong performances on the international stage.
