The draw for the 2026 Bitpanda Hamburg Open has produced a series of thrilling first-round encounters, setting the stage for an exciting week at the Rothenbaum Tennis Complex.

German youngster Justin Engel, three-time Olympic hockey player Anne Schröder and tournament director Enric Molina attended the official draw ceremony held in the tournament’s fan zone.

Top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime will begin his campaign against Czech Vit Kopriva, while US-American star Ben Shelton is set to open against a qualifier on Monday.

Italian Flavio Cobolli will also face a qualifier in his opening match as he looks to successfully defend the title he captured last year in Hamburg.

A particularly difficult challenge awaits German teenager Diego Dedura, who has drawn Frances Tiafoe from the United States in the opening round.

Meanwhile, Justin Engel faces a special test in his tournament debut against French left-hander Ugo Humbert.

“I don’t know him personally yet, but as a left-hander he’s naturally very difficult to play,” Engel said after the draw. “I can hardly wait for our match.”

German veteran Jan-Lennard Struff will make his 16th appearance in Hamburg and opens against Jakub Mensik from the Czech Republic.

Fellow German Yannick Hanfmann also received a demanding draw, facing Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca in the first round.

Daniel Altmaier, meanwhile, will begin his tournament against a qualifier.

Tournament organisers are planning a special “German Tennis Day” on Monday, with as many German players as possible scheduled to compete. Fans can expect a range of activities centred around the home players, including free merchandise and special entertainment designed to create a vibrant atmosphere around the grounds.

One of the most anticipated clashes of the opening round features third seed Alex de Minaur against Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo — a match tournament director Enric Molina already described as “a final before the final.”

With several blockbuster matchups already confirmed, fans can look forward to a spectacular start to this year’s Bitpanda Hamburg Open.
