GSTAAD/STARNBERG, June 2, 2026
Stan Wawrinka will celebrate the final tournament of his illustrious professional career in the Bernese Alps, surrounded by his fans and accompanied by Swiss musician Bastian Baker in a special tribute organized by the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad.
On Sunday, July 12, 2026, one day before the start of the main-draw matches, the tournament village in Gstaad will host a unique and emotional farewell event honouring one of Switzerland’s greatest sporting icons. Wawrinka will publicly say goodbye to his beloved home tournament and reflect on a remarkable career that has left an indelible mark on tennis history.
A three-time Grand Slam champion and Olympic gold medallist alongside Roger Federer in doubles, Wawrinka has enjoyed countless memorable moments throughout his career. Yet Gstaad has always held a special place in his heart. It was here that he received his first ATP wild card and made his tour-level debut in 2003. Two years later, he reached his first ATP final in the Swiss mountain resort, and in 2023 he captured the doubles title alongside Dominic Stricker.
Now, for the 14th and final time, Wawrinka returns to the place where it all began.
The farewell celebration will be much more than a sporting occasion. The 41-year-old Swiss will share memories and emotions with his home crowd in a special on-stage interview, while surprise appearances from fellow players will add to the festivities.
For the tournament organizers, the event serves as both a tribute to an extraordinary career and a thank-you to the fans. For the first time, spectators will have the opportunity not only to admire one of the greatest one-handed backhands in tennis history, but also to celebrate together with the player who inspired generations of Swiss tennis fans.
