HALLE, WESTPHALIA/STARNBERG, June 13, 2026
The draw for the 2026 TERRA WORTMANN OPEN was unveiled on Saturday afternoon, producing a number of exciting storylines and high-profile first-round encounters ahead of the ATP grass-court event in Halle, Westphalia.
One of the most remarkable moments of the ceremony involved German rising star Max Schoenhaus (ATP No. 332). The 18-year-old, who assisted tennis commentator Matthias Stach as a guest draw host, ended up drawing himself against US-American Learner Tien (ATP No. 19).
Tien, 19, is widely regarded as one of the brightest talents of his generation and has already established himself among the world’s Top 20 players.
“He’s about my age, but we’ve never played each other before. Let’s see what happens,” Schoenhaus said with a smile after the draw.
Should the young German pull off an upset, he could face second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime (ATP No. 4) in the second round.
The draw also produced several marquee matchups elsewhere in the field. Matthias Stach, one of Germany’s most recognizable tennis voices, happened to draw what many consider the standout first-round clash of the tournament: Ben Shelton (ATP No. 5) versus Nick Kyrgios.
The third-seeded US-American will take on the Australian showman, who returns to Halle for the first time in four years. Kyrgios, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist, recently made a successful comeback from a five-month absence by winning his opening-round match in Stuttgart. The encounter promises to feature two of the biggest servers and most entertaining personalities on the ATP Tour.
Another highly intriguing first-round contest will see Hubert Hurkacz (ATP No. 96), the 2022 Halle champion, face Andrey Rublev (ATP No. 13), who finished runner-up at the tournament in 2023. Both players are considered strong contenders for the title this year.
French Open finalist Flavio Cobolli (ATP No. 10), seeded sixth, has also been handed a difficult opener. The Italian will begin his campaign against two-time US Open semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe (ATP No. 26).
A rematch of the recent Roland Garros final could only take place in Halle’s championship match. Reigning Roland Garros champion Alexander Zverev (ATP No. 3) heads the draw as the top seed and occupies the opposite half of the bracket.
The German star will open his campaign against Czech player Vit Kopriva (ATP No. 65). A potential second-round blockbuster against Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca (ATP No. 25) could follow, provided the 19-year-old overcomes Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann (ATP No. 59) in the opening round.

Tournament Director Ralf Weber is particularly excited about Zverev’s first appearance in Germany since his triumph in Paris.
“After his historic success at Roland Garros, we’ll see what he can achieve here,” Weber said. “Maybe he can complete the triple of the French Open, the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN and Wimbledon.”
“We are looking forward to a world-class tournament week filled with exciting matches,” added Sven Wortmann, CEO of WORTMANN AG.
Main-draw action begins on Monday. A limited number of tickets remain available at the box office for opening day, while tickets for all remaining tournament days can be purchased through the official website.
