PIRACICABA/STARNBERG, June 26, 2026
Intermittent rain made for a long day at the ATP Challenger 50 Copa Internacional de Tenis in Piracicaba, but 11 matches were completed at Clube Cristovao Colombo, bringing the first round of the tournament to a close. The event offers a prize purse of $63,000 and awards 50 ATP Ranking points to the champion.
Six Brazilian players secured their places in the round of 16, with a seventh still possible should Bruno Fernandez complete his match against Argentina’s Nicolas Kicker, which was suspended before its conclusion.
The standout story of the day belonged to Lucas Andrade da Silva. The 24-year-old from Santos recorded the first ATP Challenger main-draw victory of his career in what is also his first tournament since graduating from college in the United States and deciding to pursue professional tennis full-time.
“I’m very happy,” Andrade da Silva said. “Now that I’ve finished college and am making the transition to the professional tour, coming through qualifying and winning a main-draw match is very important. Now it’s time to keep moving forward.”
His reward is a second-round meeting with third seed Thiago Seyboth Wild.
The former world No. 58 recovered from a slow start to defeat wildcard Luis Felipe Miguel 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
“The first set was difficult,” Seyboth Wild admitted. “I hadn’t played for two days, the court was damp and the balls were heavier. It took me a little while to find my rhythm. The first game of the second set was still a bit tricky, but after that the match started to go my way and I was able to finish much better than I started.”
The all-Brazilian clash between Seyboth Wild and Andrade guarantees at least one home player a place in the quarter-finals.
Elsewhere, qualifier Wilson Leite advanced comfortably with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over wildcard Filipi Bullamah.
Paulo Saraiva also celebrated a milestone, earning his first ATP Challenger main-draw win by defeating fellow Brazilian Gustavo de Almeida 7-5, 6-3. Saraiva will now take on Matheus Pucinelli for a place in the last eight.
Enzo Kohlmann came close to producing one of the upsets of the tournament against second seed Santiago La Serna. The Brazilian pushed the Argentine to three sets before eventually falling 7-6(9), 3-6, 6-2 after an impressive performance.
