Commuters at Milan’s Porta Garibaldi Metro Station received an unexpected sporting surprise on Monday as Italian tennis players Marco Cecchinato and Francesco Passaro transformed part of the station into a tennis court to promote the 2026 Aspria Tennis Cup – Trofeo BCS.

The two ATP Challenger competitors travelled to the station via Metro Line 5 from San Siro before entertaining passengers during the journey with their rackets, while happily posing for selfies and signing autographs.

Upon arriving at Porta Garibaldi, Cecchinato and Passaro stepped onto a specially constructed mini tennis court, where they exchanged a series of entertaining rallies in front of an enthusiastic crowd of commuters and tennis fans. One lucky spectator even had the chance to rally with the two Italian professionals.

Following the exhibition, the players returned to the Aspria Harbour Club, where the tournament’s main draw got underway on Monday. Both Italians will begin their campaigns on Tuesday, with Cecchinato taking on local wild card entry Filippo Romano, while Passaro faces Daniel Michalski of Poland in the opening round.

The event offered a fun opportunity to bring professional tennis closer to the public while highlighting one of the tournament’s key partners, Metro Line 5.

“It was a really enjoyable experience. It’s always great to connect with tennis fans and meet people who love our sport,” said Cecchinato and Passaro after the exhibition.
