SAN MARINO/STARNBERG, July 7, 2026
Anticipation is building for the 33rd edition of the Internazionali di Tennis San Marino Open, the ATP Challenger 125 event taking place from July 26 to August 2 at the Centro Tennis Cassa di Risparmio di Fonte dell’Ovo. With qualifying beginning on July 26 and the main draw featuring a strong international field, one of the highlights of the summer tennis calendar is once again set to deliver a week of high-quality competition.
The entry list is led by two Top 100 players. Croatia’s Dino Prizmic, currently No. 82 in the ATP Live Rankings, returns after finishing runner-up in San Marino last year, where he fell to Slovakia’s Lukas Klein in the final. Joining him at the top of the field is Argentina’s Francisco Comesana, ranked No. 94 in the world.
Italian fans will have plenty to cheer for, with four home players currently guaranteed a place in the main draw ahead of the official tournament presentation on July 24, when the wild cards allocated by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP) will also be announced.
Among them is Andrea Pellegrino, who enjoyed a breakthrough season highlighted by an impressive run to the fourth round of the Italian Open, where he defeated Arthur Fils and Frances Tiafoe before losing to Jannik Sinner. The player from Bisceglie also qualified for the main draw at Roland Garros and has climbed to No. 134 in the ATP Rankings.
Another Italian to watch is Francesco Maestrelli, who reached his first Grand Slam main draw victory after coming through qualifying at the Australian Open. The Pisa native also advanced to the Challenger final in Tenerife following three Challenger titles in 2025, continuing his push towards the ATP Top 100.
Luca Nardi will also be aiming to revive his season after an ulna fracture suffered during Indian Wells interrupted a promising start that included a Challenger final in Manama and an ATP quarterfinal in Montpellier. The 23-year-old is now working with experienced coach Renzo Furlan as he looks to fulfil his considerable potential.
Former Roland Garros semi-finalist Marco Cecchinato, currently ranked No. 175, is also expected to join the field. The Palermo native reached last week’s Challenger final in Milan and has fond memories of San Marino, where he captured the first major title of his career in 2013 before eventually climbing to a career-high ATP Ranking of No. 16.
Local interest is further boosted by the presence of several players from the Romagna region on the alternates list, including Enrico Dalla Valle, Federico Bondioli, Francesco Forti, and Carlo Alberto Caniato, all of whom could still earn a place in qualifying or even the main draw through wild cards.
