A packed day of action marked the start of the main draw at the BRAWO Open in Braunschweig, with 15 first-round singles matches completed. Home fans had plenty to celebrate as German youngsters Diego Dedura, Max Schoenhaus, Niels McDonald and Mika Petkovic all booked their places in the second round of the ATP Challenger 125 clay-court event with impressive performances.
Schoenhaus knocked out world No. 65 and top seed Roman Andres Burruchaga of Argentina 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and 14 minutes and will next take on Serbia’s Laslo Djere.

Dedura fought past Frenchman Clement Tabur after two hours and 10 minutes 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to set a second-round clash with seventh-seeded Czech Dalibor Svrcina.
In the bottom half of the draw, Petkovic defeated Timofey Skatov of Kazakhstan 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 43 minutes. The 19-year-old qualifier from Reinbek will next play No. 8 seed Hugo Gaston of France. McDonald eased past US-American Keegan Smith in 60 minutes 6-1, 6-3. The wild card entry awaits Martin Krumich of the Czech Republic in the second round.
