CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, August 5, 2016
Consistent rain has cancelled all play on Friday at the €42,500 ATP Challenger in Cortina, held at the local Tennis Country Club.
The singles quarterfinals had to be postponed to Saturday morning when the tournament’s third seed Facundo Bagnis will take on fifth seed Roberto Carballés-Baena for the first match on Campo Centrale. The 26-year-old Argentine won the only previous meeting between the two in straight sets at the qualifying of the French Open 2014.
The encounter is followed by local hope Matteo Donati, who will clash with Joao Souza from Brazil. It will be the pair’s first meeting.
Action on Campo 3 will kick off with two youngsters going head to head, as Laslo Djere will face Andrey Rublev for the third time. The teenager from Russia got the better of the 21-year-old Serbian at juniors level in 2013 as well as at the 2015 Moscow Challenger.
The winner of the match between eighth seed Guido Andreozzi and Lorenzo Giustino will complete the semi-finals line-up. The Argentine and the Italian will square off for the first time. The stage of the final four will take place after suitable rest.
