KITZBÜHEL/STARNBERG, July 18, 2026
The main draw for the Generali Open Kitzbühel has produced a series of intriguing first-round match-ups, with Austria’s leading players facing demanding opening tests at the ATP 250 event.
Austria’s top-ranked player Sebastian Ofner will begin his campaign against Alex Molcan, looking to avenge his defeat to the Slovak in the round of 16 in Kitzbühel two years ago. Should Ofner progress, he could face either Germany’s Daniel Altmaier or Belgium’s Raphael Collignon, who arrives in Austria in strong form after reaching the final in Gstaad.
Young Austrian Joel Schwaerzler has been handed a first-round meeting with a qualifier, while Lukas Neumayer, who received a main-draw wildcard only yesterday, faces one of the toughest possible openers against Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann. A former Kitzbühel semi-finalist, Hanfmann has consistently performed well at altitude.
“It won’t be easy for Lukas against a Kitzbühel and altitude specialist,” said tournament director Alexander Antonitsch. “In general, the draw could have been kinder to the Austrian players, but the field is extremely competitive.”
Germany is strongly represented with three players in the draw. Alongside Altmaier and Hanfmann, Jan-Lennard Struff returns to Kitzbühel following his impressive Wimbledon quarter-final run. Struff opens against Kazakhstan’s Aleksandr Shevchenko, another player arriving in excellent form after reaching the semi-finals in Gstaad.
“With the confidence from Wimbledon and the conditions at altitude, Struff is one of the dark horses for the title,” Antonitsch said. “But Shevchenko is also playing very well, so that promises to be an exciting match.”
Another standout first-round clash features an all-Argentine encounter between Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who reached the semi-finals in Gstaad, and Marco Trungelliti.
The tournament’s top four seeds all receive first-round byes in the 28-player draw. Defending champion Alexander Bublik, now ranked world No. 11, heads the field. Second seed Valentin Vacherot (ATP No. 21) could meet Quentin Halys, who recently defeated Bublik in Gstaad. Third seed Arthur Rinderknech (ATP No. 28) is projected to open against either former Kitzbühel champion Sebastian Baez or Miomir Kecmanovic, while fourth seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry (ATP No. 30), a proven performer in Kitzbühel, completes the list of top seeds.
