BONN/STARNBERG, August 2, 2026

The ATP Challenger Tour returned to Germany this week to kick off a four-tournament clay-court swing, with Britain’s Jan Choinski emerging as the champion of the third edition of the Bonn Open. The top seed capped a dominant week by defeating home wild card Jamie McKenzie in Sunday’s final 6-3, 6-2, claiming his third ATP Challenger title of the season and adding another milestone to his strong summer on clay.

Choinski, who also triumphed in Zagreb, Croatia and in Braunschweig, Germany, struck seven aces and won 68 per cent of his first-service points. The 30-year-old Briton broke his rival four times to secure victory in one hour and five minutes.

By winning his 10th ATP Challenger Tour career title, Choinski pocketed €15,510 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points. The victory is expected to propel him to world No. 77 when the latest ATP Rankings are published.

McKenzie enjoyed a breakthrough week in Bonn, reaching the first ATP Challenger final of his career. The 18-year-old German, who was born in New Zealand, impressed with a series of confident performances, highlighting his potential on home soil. Along the way, the young prospect defeated fellow rising talent Max Dahlin of Sweden in the semifinals, who had earlier knocked out Germany’s highest-ranked player in the draw, Tom Gentzsch, as well as former Top 100 Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan.

The German clay-court stretch now continues with the Platzmann Open in Hagen, the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup before concluding with the Schwaben Open in Augsburg later this month.
