The second day of main-draw action at the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup was played out under bright sunshine at the Rothenbaum Tennis Complex, with an all-German clash between two promising young talents taking centre stage. Max Rehberg (ATP No. 332) defeated 18-year-old Diego Dedura (ATP No. 193) 6-1, 6-4 to make a successful start at the ATP Challenger 75 event.
In a high-quality encounter featuring plenty of entertaining rallies, Rehberg broke his opponent’s serve seven times and wrapped up the victory after 80 minutes.
“I played a good first set, but then had to give up a few breaks. I’m happy that I managed to handle it well in the end,” said the 22-year-old from Munich afterwards.
It was Rehberg’s second victory over Dedura, having also beaten his fellow German once on the professional tour and during this year’s Tennis Bundesliga season. After returning from an eight-month injury layoff in January, the Bavarian has enjoyed an impressive 2026 campaign. He won his second and third ITF World Tennis Tour titles in Oslo and Brussels and also captured his first ATP Challenger doubles title alongside Max Wiskandt.
“I’m very happy with my tennis at the moment. There are still one or two areas I need to work on, but I’m working on them and things are getting better all the time,” Rehberg said.
His next opponent will be Georgian lucky loser Saba Purtseladze (ATP No. 659).
Schoenhaus, Molleker also advance
Two more German players, Max Schoenhaus (ATP No. 312) and Rudolf Molleker (ATP No. 488), also booked their places in the second round.
Schönhaus advanced after top seed Zsombor Piros (ATP No. 123) was forced to retire due to injury before the start of the third set. Schönhaus will face Brazil’s Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida (ATP No. 277) on Wednesday.
Molleker produced one of the day’s notable results by knocking third seed Elmer Moller (ATP No. 184) out of the tournament. The 25-year-old wildcard from Oranienburg once again showed how comfortable he feels in Hamburg. He will next take on Croatia’s Matej Dodig (ATP No. 257).
