Two months to go. The countdown is officially entering its most exciting phase: from October 11-18, 2026, Rovereto will once again become a hub for international women’s tennis.
The PalaBaldresca will host the second edition of the RoveretOpen Città della Pace, a WTA 125 event organised by Circolo Tennis Rovereto. Following a successful debut in 2025, the tournament will once again put the City of Peace on the international tennis calendar.
Rovereto is not simply looking to host another major event. The ambition is to build a tournament tradition that continues to grow year after year.
The only WTA 125 in the region
The RoveretOpen will once again be the only WTA 125 tournament in Trentino-Alto Adige, making the PalaBaldresca a regional focal point for top-level women’s tennis.
The event will be played on a fast indoor surface, featuring a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles tournament. With total prize money of $115,000, the tournament will also offer valuable WTA Ranking points.
WTA 125 events represent an important stepping stone towards the highest level of the sport, bringing together established players, athletes chasing a place in the Top 100 and emerging talents looking to make their breakthrough.
A memorable debut in 2025
The inaugural edition left a lasting impression. For an entire week, Rovereto was immersed in international tennis, with fans enjoying an intimate atmosphere close to the action and the PalaBaldresca transformed into a compact tennis arena.
The first champion was Oksana Selekhmeteva. The 22-year-old Russian dominated Italian Lucrezia Stefanini 6-1, 6-1 in the final to claim the inaugural title.
The victory proved hugely significant for Selekhmeteva. The 125 ranking points she earned in Rovereto helped propel her towards the Top 100 and secured her a place in the main draw of the Australian Open. For Stefanini, meanwhile, the tournament marked the first WTA final of her career.
There was also plenty of excitement in the doubles, where Czech duo Jesika Maleckova and Miriam Skoch defeated Italians Silvia Ambrosio and Aurora Zantedeschi 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 in the final.
After a difficult start, the Italian pair fought their way back into the match with the support of the home crowd. In the deciding match tie-break, however, the experience and precision of the Czech favourites made the difference.
Tyra Grant shines in Rovereto
One of the most anticipated players at the inaugural edition was Tyra Grant, one of the brightest young prospects in Italian tennis.
At just 17 years of age, Grant made an immediate impression by defeating fifth seed Maria Timofeeva, then ranked No. 146 in the world, 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round.
Her run ended in the second round against Switzerland’s Susan Bandecchi, but Rovereto had already witnessed first-hand the talent, personality and quality of a player regarded as one of the most promising prospects on the international scene.
Grant’s appearance perfectly illustrated the RoveretOpen’s ambition: giving fans the opportunity to watch tomorrow’s stars today.
Garbin and Lorenzi among special guests
The 2025 tournament also attracted some of the most prominent figures in Italian tennis.
Tathiana Garbin, captain of Italy’s Billie Jean King Cup team, attended the event and followed the progress of several of the country’s young players closely.
Former world No. 33 Paolo Lorenzi, now tournament director of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, was also among the distinguished guests at the PalaBaldresca. Their presence underlined the sporting and organisational significance the tournament had already achieved in its first edition.
The success of the inaugural event was made possible by the work of Circolo Tennis Rovereto, president Francesco Liace, tournament director Luca Stoppini, the entire staff and the many volunteers involved in the organisation.
Rovereto prepares for the second chapter
The organisational team is now back at work, with the goal of building on the foundations laid in 2025 and delivering an even stronger second edition.
The player field, full schedule, ticket information and details of the tournament’s accompanying activities will be announced in the coming weeks.
One thing, however, is already certain: from October 11-18, international women’s tennis will return to the PalaBaldresca.
Rovereto is ready to welcome the WTA Tour back to the City of Peace. The countdown is on.
