Marvin Moeller is continuing his impressive run at the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup. The 27-year-old German defeated fellow countryman Niels McDonald 6-4, 6-0 on Friday to reach the semifinals of the ATP Challenger 75 event at the Rothenbaum Tennis Complex for the first time.
Playing in bright sunshine and hot conditions on the Center Court, Moeller delivered another composed and convincing performance in front of his home crowd. He saved both break points he faced and converted four of his own opportunities to wrap up the match after just 70 minutes.

“I can be very happy with my performance today,” Moeller said afterwards. “At the beginning, everything was very close and we were both playing at a very high level. In the second set, everything came together for me and it was a pretty much perfect set.”
The Hamburg native, who won his maiden ATP Challenger title in Troyes, France earlier this season, had gone the distance in both of his previous matches, spending more than three hours on court each time. Given the hot conditions, he was delighted to avoid another lengthy battle.
“Physically, I feel good, but I’m certainly not unhappy to have had a shorter match today, especially in this heat,” Moeller said.
The world No. 319 will face Matej Dodig in Saturday’s semifinal. The 21-year-old Croatian, ranked No. 251 in the ATP Rankings, advanced after Georgian lucky loser Saba Purtseladze was forced to retire due to injury.
The other semifinal will see Brazil’s Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida take on Czech qualifier Jan Kumstat.
