The Kirschbaum Meerbusch Open came to a spectacular conclusion on Sunday, with perfect sunshine, temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius and a sold-out Center Court providing the ideal setting for a memorable final day. Nearly 500 spectators created a fantastic atmosphere, leaving Tournament Director Julia Mackowiak and organiser Marc Raffel delighted with a crowd reminiscent of the golden days of tennis at Düsseldorf’s Rochusclub.
The only thing missing from the singles final was a little more suspense. Adrian Oetzbach of Germany produced an outstanding performance to defeat Finland’s Eero Vasa 6-3, 6-0 and claim the title of the World Tennis Tour M25 event in commanding fashion. The 28-year-old controlled the match on the Kirschbaum Center Court almost from start to finish, completing a remarkable week in style.
“After a demanding week, Eero had given a lot of energy,” organiser Marc Raffel said, reflecting on the one-sided final.
For Oetzbach, the triumph also adds his name to an impressive list of German champions at the event. Following Florian Mayer and Yannick Hanfmann, he becomes the third German player to lift the trophy at a Pro Circuit tournament staged in the Rhine and Ruhr region. Oetzbach captured his third career crown on the ITF World Tennis Tour, his second of the season following his triumph in Uslar, Germany.

The successful tournament also delivered encouraging signs for the future of the Meerbusch Open. According to Raffel, many sponsors have indicated that they are keen to continue supporting the event next year.
“Mega,” Raffel said in summary, perfectly capturing the mood after a highly successful edition of the tournament.
