PORTOROZ, August 13, 2016
Florian Mayer is the champion of the fourth edition of the €42,500 Tilia Slovenia Open in Portoroz. The 32-year-old German, seeded first at the Adriatic coastline, defeated Daniil Medvedev in Saturday’s final 6-1, 6-2.
Mayer dominated the match right from the beginning, saved the only break point he faced, capitalizing on five of his own to seal victory in only 53 minutes. It is Mayer’s second title of the season, after he had lifted the trophy of the ATP 500 event in Halle in June. The German celebrated his 12th career title on the ATP Challenger Tour, his first since Braunschweig 2013.
“Winning the title and taking away important ranking points, I am very satisfied with the week,” Mayer stated on facebook.
The former world number 18 earns €6,150 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points. He will continue his journey in Meerbusch next week, being the top-seed at the €42,500 Cittadino Challenger.
