The Argentine trio of Roman Burruchaga, Camilo Ugo Carabelli and Francisco Comesana headline the entry list for the 22nd edition of the Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil Copa Banco Guayaquil, which will be held from October 25 to November 1, 2026, on the clay courts of the Guayaquil Tenis Club Anexo.

The three Argentines are joined by six compatriots, giving Argentina a strong nine-player contingent in pursuit of the title and the 75 ATP ranking points on offer to the champion.

The official entry list also features players from Germany, Denmark, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Ecuador.

A total of 21 players have entered the singles main draw directly through their rankings, while two have received wild cards. They will be joined by six qualifiers, one additional wild card and, if applicable, two special exemptions to complete the 32-player field.

From Grand Slams and Masters 1000s to Guayaquil

Many of the players in the field have experience competing at Grand Slam, Masters 1000, ATP 500 and ATP 250 level, with several having recorded notable victories and deep runs on the ATP Tour.

Roman Burruchaga currently sits at No. 62 in the ATP rankings. The Argentine reached the final of the ATP 250 in Houston this season and the semifinals in Umag, while also winning the Sao Paulo Challenger. At Roland Garros, he reached the second round after defeating fellow Argentine Sebastian Baez.

Burruchaga has also recorded victories over Stan Wawrinka, Nuno Borges, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Learner Tien and Flavio Cobolli.

Camilo Ugo Carabelli is currently ranked No. 77, having reached a career-high ranking of No. 43 last year. He has reached the second round of Roland Garros twice, in 2022 and again in 2026.

This season, Ugo Carabelli reached the semifinals in Marrakech and the quarterfinals at the ATP 500 in Hamburg as well as the ATP 250 events in Buenos Aires and Umag. He also captured the Rosario Challenger title.

His list of notable victories includes wins over Roman Burruchaga, Mariano Navone, Ignacio Buse, Karen Khachanov, Gael Monfils, Frances Tiafoe, Diego Schwartzman, Nicolas Jarry and Kei Nishikori.

Francisco Comesana, nicknamed “The Shark”, is currently ranked No. 125 in the world, although he reached a career-high No. 54 last year. This season, he advanced to the third round at Roland Garros, defeating Luciano Darderi before losing to Matteo Berrettini in five sets.

Comesana has also reached the third round at Wimbledon and the US Open in his career. Among his biggest victories is a win over then world No. 2 Alexander Zverev in Rio de Janeiro last year. He has also defeated Andrey Rublev, Arthur Fils, Luciano Darderi, Jaume Munar and Alex Michelsen.

The Argentine has won seven ATP Challenger titles during his career.

Four Former Guayaquil Finalists Return

The 22nd edition of the tournament will feature four players who have previously reached the final in Guayaquil: Hugo Dellien in 2019, Federico Coria in 2022, Tomas Barrios in 2024 and Juan Pablo Varillas in 2025.

All four know the demanding conditions of clay-court tennis in Guayaquil and will return with the goal of finally claiming the title that previously eluded them.

Two Ecuadorians Confirmed

Two Ecuadorians are currently confirmed for the main draw. Junior Angel Veliz has received a wild card after winning this year’s Davis Cup qualifying event, while Alvaro Guillen, currently ranked No. 332, is just four places outside the main-draw cut.

Should Guillen miss out on direct entry because of late withdrawals, he is guaranteed a wild card.

Andres Andrade did not enter the Guayaquil Challenger, as he will compete on hard courts in the United States instead.

Several other Ecuadorian players are also expected to compete in the qualifying draw after receiving wild cards, giving the home nation further representation at the 22nd edition of the Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil Copa Banco Guayaquil.
