World Tennis Media Release, October 26, 2026
Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Flavio Cobolli have all been named to represent their nations at the 2026 Davis Cup by Generali Final 8 in Bologna. The showpiece finale of the world’s premier team competition in men’s tennis takes place on 24-29 November.
Alcaraz returns to Davis Cup action for the first time since the 2024 Final 8, after injury prevented him from competing in Davis Cup last season. After completing the career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open title in January, the Spaniard stated that becoming a Davis Cup champion was a priority. “The Davis Cup, it is a goal as well,” he said after his victory in Melbourne. “I really want to achieve that for my country, for Spain.”
Spain’s squad features two other Top 15 players, with Rafael Jodar and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina also selected by captain David Ferrer. Spain will face Austria in the quarter-finals, with Jurij Rodionov set to lead the Austrian team.
Germany’s Zverev competes at the Final 8 for the second straight year, with the team aiming to improve on a semi-final finish from 2025. Zverev won his first two Grand Slam titles this season and is guaranteed to become world No. 1 for the first time in November. He spearheads a German team which will play Great Britain – who are led by Wimbledon semi-finalist Arthur Fery – in the quarter-finals.
Cobolli is the No. 1 player in an Italian team bidding to secure a fourth consecutive Davis Cup title. The 24-year-old will hope to repeat his heroics from 2025, when he won all three matches he played at the Final 8 to steer his team to the title. Cobolli has enjoyed a career-best season in 2026, having reached his first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros and broken into the world’s Top 10 for the first time. Also in the Italian team are Luciano Darderi and Lorenzo Musetti. The Italians will face Korea, Rep. in the quarter-finals, with Kwon Soonwoo and Chung Hyeon aiming to guide the Korean team into the Davis Cup semi-finals for the first time.
The opening tie of the week sees Czechia up against Canada, with both teams at full strength. Jakub Mensik and Jiri Lehecka have both been nominated for Czechia, while world No. 7 Felix Auger-Aliassime is joined in the Canadian team by Denis Shapovalov – the same duo which led Canada to the title in 2022.
The quarter-finals will take place on Tuesday 24-Thursday 26 November, with the semi-finals on Friday 27-Saturday 28 November and the 2026 Davis Cup by Generali final on Sunday 29 November.
David Haggerty, World Tennis President, said: “The excitement is building as we approach the 2026 Davis Cup by Generali Final 8. The competition offers drama, passion, excitement and national pride on a global scale unique in the tennis calendar. We look forward to seeing that on display as the world’s best players battle it out for the honour to lift the iconic trophy for their nation next month. The first edition of the Final 8 in Bologna in 2025 was an incredible event and I have no doubt this year’s Final 8 will be a thrilling conclusion to another incredible year in the men’s World Cup of Tennis. Good luck to all eight teams.”
