BREST/STARNBERG, November 1, 2026
Moise Kouame has written another chapter in his remarkable rise through professional tennis, capturing his maiden ATP Challenger title at the Brest Open Groupe Vert on Sunday. The 17-year-old Frenchman defeated fifth-seeded US-American Martin Damm 6-4, 6-7(5), 7-6(4) in a thrilling final to become the eighth-youngest first-time Challenger champion since 2010.
The triumph was particularly special given the tournament’s history. Brest is the same city where Roger Federer claimed his first and only ATP Challenger trophy back in 1999. Twenty-seven years later, Kouame celebrated a milestone of his own on French soil.
Kouame’s achievement puts him in an impressive company. Only seven players have become first-time Challenger champions at a younger age since 2010. Among those ahead of the French teenager are Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who currently occupy the top three positions in the ATP Rankings.
The road to the title was anything but straightforward. Kouame had to overcome several experienced opponents throughout the week, showing composure and maturity well beyond his years. His final against the fifth-seeded Damm proved to be the ultimate test, with neither player willing to give ground. The teenager withstood 23 aces and capitalized on two of his three break-point chances to seal victory in two hours and 18 minutes.
A day Kouame will never forget 🥹

The Brest Open Groupe Vert, an ATP Challenger 100 tournament played on indoor hard courts, offered 100 ATP ranking points and €23,750 in prize money to its champion. For Kouame, however, the significance of the week went far beyond the financial reward or ranking points.
At just 17, he has now joined an exclusive group of teenage talents who have made an early impression on the Challenger Tour. With his maiden title secured in a city that holds a special place in tennis history, Kouame has provided another exciting indication of his potential.
The next chapter of his journey will be followed with considerable interest as he continues his progression towards the highest level of professional tennis.
