Reigning Brisbane International champion Daniil Medvedev and four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka will return to Brisbane this summer, joining the world No.1s as the first players announced for the tournament.
Tickets for the Brisbane International 2027 presented by ANZ are now on sale, and with four of the world’s best players already locked in, fans are encouraged to act fast.
Alongside previously announced world No.1s Elena Rybakina and Alexander Zverev, the addition of Medvedev and Osaka further strengthens the field, ensuring fans an incredible tournament to launch the summer of tennis.
World No.5 Medvedev returns for his third appearance at the BI, aiming to defend his 2026 title in a quest to start the season strong.
“I’m looking forward to returning to Brisbane and defending my title. It’s always a strong field and a great way to start the year,” he said.
“Pat Rafter Arena is a fantastic place to play, and the fans always create a great atmosphere.”
2027 will mark Osaka’s fifth Brisbane International, following three appearances in the main draw between 2019 and 2024, and her debut in 2016, at which she competed in qualifying.
“I’m really happy to be returning to Brisbane. The fans always bring incredible energy, and it’s a place I love competing,” she said.
“I’m excited to start my season here, where the atmosphere is always great. I’m looking forward to some great matches and hopefully giving the fans some exciting tennis to enjoy.”
Brisbane International Tournament Director Cameron Pearson said the return of the two former No.1s and Grand Slam champions would guarantee local fans world-class tennis on their doorstep.
“Naomi is one of the biggest names in world tennis, and we’re thrilled to welcome her back to Brisbane,” he said.
“She’s reached the semifinals here twice, and I know fans will be excited to see her back on Pat Rafter Arena.
“It’s also great to have Daniil returning to defend his title. He’s had a strong year, climbing to world No.5, and he’ll be looking to start 2027 with another title in Brisbane.
“With both players returning, we’re building a field that will give fans plenty to look forward to in January.”
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said the Brisbane International was serving up plenty for tennis fans to get excited about.
“The Brisbane International is exactly the kind of event that showcases Queensland at its best,” Minister Powell said.
“Attracting world-class sporting talent to Queensland helps put our state in the global spotlight and strengthens our reputation as a leading destination for major events.
“Through Destination 2045, the Crisafulli Government is investing in the events that will help cement Queensland as Australia’s events capital while driving visitation, supporting local businesses and creating jobs.”
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said Brisbane fans were in for a treat this summer.
“With four of the world’s best players already locked in and the tournament still two months away, it’s clear Brisbane tennis fans are winners well before the first serve,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Major events like the Brisbane International create more to see and do, while bringing more customers through the doors of local businesses.
“There’s no better way to start the new year than a day at the tennis and with tickets from just $30, it’s a great way for the whole family to enjoy summer in Australia’s lifestyle capital.”
