The quarterfinals of the WTA Ladies Generali Linz are set. The tournament’s top seed Garbine Muguruza remained untroubled against Monica Niculescu from Romania, winning 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday. The 23-year-old Spaniard saved five of the six break points she faced, capitalizing on six of her own to prevail in 63 minutes.
Muguruza will next face Viktorija Golubic from Switzerland, who defeated 2012 runner-up Julia Görges 7-5, 6-4.
Second seed Dominika Cibulkova eased past Annika Beck, winning 6-1, 6-3. The world number 10 won 74 per cent to advance in 63 minutes. Cibulkova will next face the tournament’s number five Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia, who beat Belgian Kirsten Flipkens 6-4, 7-6.
Madison cruised past Misaki Doi in only 47 minutes. The wild card from the United States didn’t face a break point, converting five of her own to secure a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Next up for Keys will be Oceane Dodin from France.
