FAIRFIELD, October 18, 2016
Santiago Giraldo is the champion of the second edition of the $100,000 Francis Ford Coppola Winery ATP Challenger, held at the Solano Community College in Fairfield. He defeated Quentin Halys in Monday’s final 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, 23 hours after the title match was initially scheduled to begin.
The match started with a rain delay on Sunday and was later suspended with the Frenchman leading 3-1 due to bad weather. After losing the opening set, Giraldo managed to turn the match around, claiming his 10th ATP Challenger career title, his second of the second of the season after Prague. The match time was one hour and 38 minutes.
The 28-year-old from Colombia took away $14,400 in prize money as well as 100 ATP ranking points. Giraldo continues his journey on the US-American Challenger swing, competing at the Las Vegas Open this week. He will be the tournament’s number four, taking on Spanish qualifier Roberto Ortega-Olmedo in his opening match.
