Grigor Dimitov celebrated his second title on the ATP World Tour this season, a very special one, as the 25-year-old Bulgarian won the second edition of the Garanti Koza Sofia Open with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over David Goffin on Sunday.

In front of a packed Arena Armeec, Dimitrov fired 10 aces and capitalized on five of his seven break point chances to prevail in one hour and 38 minutes.

Dimitrov improves to 14-1 in 2017. He is now on the cusp of the Top 10 of the Emirates ATP Rankings after standing at No. 40 in July 2016.

“This is my most prestigious title. Winning it at home is a tremendous success for me. I will treasure this title for the rest of my life. It’s something amazing for me.”

“The crowd has been absolutely magnificent throughout the week. I’m more than thankful for their support,” Dimitrov told.

Serbs Win Doubles Title

Earlier the day, Viktor Troicki, last year’s singles runner-up in Sofia, and Nenad Zimonjic took the doubles title, winning 6-4, 6-4 over the all-Russian-combination of Mikhail Elgin and Andrey Kuznetsov. The encounter lasted exactly one hour.

“It’s been a really long time. I had a couple of finals in 2015 but 2016 was a really tough year for me without a steady partner and some injuries. This is great to be back in a final of an ATP World Tour event, to play with your really good friend. It’s an amazing feeling to do it in front of my wife, my kids, my long-time coach, physio, it’s just huge to play here,” said Zimonjic, who captured his 54 ATP doubles title.

“It feels great. First of all it was an honour playing with Nenad; it’s out first title together. He’s been a big support throughout my career, so to win this title with him is pretty special,” Troicki added.
