The quarterfinals of the $15,000 BBVA Future Vila de Xàbia held at the Ferrer Tennis Academy are set. The tournament’s top seed Pedro Martínez Portero defeated wild card recipient Sergi Perez Contri 7-5, 6-0 on Thursday. The 19-year-old Spaniard won 75 of the 126 total points played to advance in one hour and 52 minutes.
Martínez Portero will take on Carlos Boluda-Purkiss, who knocked off sixth favourite Ivan Galakhov from Russia, winning 6-2, 6-4. The World No. 631 finished the encounter in one hour and 34 minutes.
Third seed Marc Giner eased past qualifier Quim Sorni Chavarria 6-3, 6-0 in only 69 minutes to face the tournament’s number five Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the stage of the final eight. Zapata Miralles stopped the good run of only 17-year-old Argentine Camilo Ugo Carabelli, who battled throught the qualifying, winning 6-1, 3-6, 7-6.
Raul Brancaccio
In the match of the day, second seed Carlos Taberner fought past local favourite Raul Brancaccio of Italy, who is coached by Javier Ferrer and practices at the local tennis club in Jávea. The 19-year-old Spaniard overcame a spirited effort from the World No. 731, who is of the same age and entered the main draw with a wild card.
Taberner won the opening set but Brancaccio took the match the distance and was two breaks up in the third. Yet, the teenager from Valencia settled his game and saved one match point to capitalize on his first own opportunity to secure victory in two hours and 29 minutes.
Taberner goes on to take on Javier Martí next. The 25-year-old beat qualifier Sergio Martos Gornes 6-1, 6-2 in one hour and 25 minutes.
In the last quarterfinal, fourth favourite Mario Viella Martinez will face the tournament’s number seven Pedro Cachín of Argentina.

In Friday’s doubles final, top seeds Gerald Granollers-Pujol and Pedro Martínez Portero will play Ivan Gakhov and Sergio Martos Gornes.
World No. 32 David Ferrer, who withdrew from the ATP Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells due to an achilles injury, was also back at the Academy of his brother, having a practice session on hard court with Pablo Andújar.
