GUADALAJARA, March 26, 2017

Denis Shapovalov and Mirza Basic will compete in Sunday’s final of the $50,000 Jalisco Open presentado por Aeromexico, held at the Polideportivo Metropolitano de Tenis in Guadalajara.

The Canadian teenager, who captured his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour last weekend in Drummondville and emerged victorious from the ITF Futures in Gatineau earlier this month, extended his winning streak to nine matches by reaching another final. Shapovalov fought past Jerzy Janowicz from Poland, rallying 4-6, 6-3, 7-6. The 17-year-old from Richmond Hill fired 12 aces, seven more than his big-serving opponent, winning 86 per cent of his first service points to secure victory in one hour and 51 minutes.

Basic knocked out the last seed player in the singles main draw, winning 6-3, 6-3 over Jason Jung of Taiwan. The 25-year-old from Bosnia and Herzegovina converted four of his 10 break point chances to prevail in one hour and 16 minutes.

Basic is looking to gain his second ATP Challenger career title, lifting his first trophy since Recanati two years ago. The in-form Sarajevo native only dropped one set in four matches this week. Shapovalov, who will have the chance to win his third title this month, and Basic will meet for the first time.

In the doubles final, fourth seeded Australians Luke Saville and John-Patrick Smith will take on second favourites Santiago Gonzalez from Mexico and Artem Sitak of New Zealand.
