Borna Coric

MARRAKECH, April 15, 2017

Borna Coric will meet Philipp Kohlschreiber in Sunday’s singles final of the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech, held at the local Royal Tennis Club.

ATP NextGen star Coric clinched a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jiri Vesely from the Czech Republic, who was making his third straight tournament semi-final showing. The 20-year-old Croat saved both break points he faced, converting two of his own to advance to his second consecutive final in Morocco after one hour and 22 minutes. Coric finished runner-up to Federico Delbonis last year.

Kohlschreiber, the tournament’s number three, eased past sixth seed Benoit Paire of France, winning 6-2, 6-2. The 33-year-old German won 95 per cent of his first service points and capitalized on four of his 14 break point chances to reache his first final of the season after 61 minutes.

Kohlschreiber and Coric will meet for the third time with the German leading 2-0 in head-to-head records. Both previous encounters took place last year.

Inglot/Pavic Claim First Team Title

Earlier the day, Dominic Inglot and Mate Pavic notched their first team title in their first tournament together, winning 6-4, 2-6, 11-9 over Marcel Granollers and Marc López from Spain. The encounter lasted one hour and 29 minutes.

Inglot and Pavic claimed scalp after scalp in capturing the title, having dismissed third seeds Rohan Bopanna and Marcin Matkowski in the quarter-finals and top seeds Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram in the semis, before edging the second-seeded Spaniards.

“This is the first we played together and we had a great week,” told Inglot, who claimed his seventh ATP World Tour title and his first of the season. “Mate played very well. The level was extremely high, almost like at a Masters 1000. We had to beat very strong teams this week and therefore the title means even more to us. I had a great time this week and enjoyed the city very much.”

Pavic claimed his sixth ATP World Tour doubles title and first since lifting the ‘s-Hertogenbosch trophy in 2016 with Michael Venus.
