Three days ahead of the start of the BMW Open by FWU AG, Andy Murray spoke about his first appearance in Munich.
“I am really looking forward to play in Munich next week. The 100th edition is something special and my brother has already told me a lot about the tournament’s familiar atmosphere,” a newly-married Scot said. His brother Jamie played doubles at the ATP 250 event in Bavaria and claimed the title last year alongside his partner Colin Flemming.
If Andy can do the same in the singles competition this year, will not be certain. “The main draw is very tough with a lot of good players. I have to play my best tennis to reach the final,” the current word number three told.
The 27-year-old Scot will be the tournament’s number one seed and the only top-10 player, but with Roberto Bautista-Agut, Gael Monfils, David Goffin or Fabio Fognini, there are a couple of other top-30 players in the draw. 18-year-old German top-talent Alexander Zverev as well as former world number two Tommy Haas received a wild card.
Murray also wants to experience the capital of Bavaria during his stay. “I have heard a lot about the city, a very nice and clean city,” he stated. “I would like to attend a football match with Fc Bayern Munich.”
A visit at the club’s home stadium, the Allianz Arena, could be possible for the Brit, as Fc Bayern will welcome Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening for the DFB-Cup’s semi-final match.
