VIENNA, May 16, 2017
Kei Nishikori will compete in this year’s Erste Bank Open 500 held from 21 to 29 October 2017 at the Stadthalle in Vienna. The 27-year-old from Japan will come to the Austrian capital for the very first time.
“I heard a lot of positive things about the tournament. It has an outstanding reputation. I am looking forward to play there for the first time and to visit some of the main attractions of the city,” Nishikori told during the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome.
The World No. 8, who is coached by former French Open champion Michael Chang, captured eight ATP World Tour titles in his career. Nishikori advanced to the semi-finals at the season finale in London two times and won the Bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro last year.
Nishikori will join local favourite Dominic Thiem. The Austrian youngsters announced earlier in the year that he will return to Vienna for the eighth time.
“We always want to present new faces,” tournament director Herwig Straka said. “I am very pleased to announce the appearance of two top 10 players at this early stage. We are still in talks with other top stars such as defending champion Andy Murray.”
