Daniel Brands and Alexander Bublik headlined Thursday’s third round action at the Wimbledon Qualifying. The 29-year-old German battled past the #NextGenATP star from Kazakhstan, winning 6-3, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2, 12-10.
Brands won 72 per cent of his first service points, firing eight aces and broke serve four times to prevail in two hours and 46 minutes. The former World No. 51, who dropped to 214th position, will appear in his first Wimbledon main draw since 2013.
Brands will be joined by compatriot Peter Gojowczyk, who beat Lukas Lacko of Slovakia 7-5, 6-2, 6-3.
Two youngsters from Chile also qualified for the main draw, as Christian Garin battled past John-Patrick Smith of Autralia, rallying 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 4-6, 12-10 after three hours and 39 minutes. The 21-year-old from Arica will play his first Grand Slam main draw.
Nicolas Jarry defeated US-American Denis Novikov 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. The Santiago native sent down 20 aces and capitalized on three of his seven break point chances to secure victory in two hours and 12 minutes. Jarry advanced to his second main draw at a major after Roland Garros earlier this season.
