Paula Badosa Gibert clinched the title of the $25,000 ITF Open Castilla y León, held on hard courts at the Villa El Espinar. The 19-year-old unseeded Spaniard defeated the tournament’s number six Ayla Aksu of Turkey 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday.
Badosa Gibert capitalized on four of her five break point chances to prevail in 65 minutes. The teenager, ranked World No. 313, clinched her third title on the ITF Pro Circuit, following her triumphs in Sant Jordi in 2013 and Denain in 2015.
“I am very happy with the week. The first two matches were very tough but I improved in the next two matches,” told Badosa Gibert, who won the 2015 French Open girls’ singles title. “I was pretty nervous at the end of the final today but I managed to stay calm.”
Quinn Gleason from the United States and Luisa Stefani of Brazil took the doubles title, winning Friday’s final against Ayla Aksu and Bibiane Schoofs from the Netherlands 6-3, 6-2 in 57 minutes.
