STOCKTON, October 9, 2017

Cameron Norrie is the champion of the $100,000 Stockton Challenger held at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center on the campus of University of the Pacific. The 22-year-old from Great Britain defeated Darian King of Barbados in Sunday’s singles final 6-1, 6-3 to clinch his second consecutive ATP Challenger title following his triumph in Tiburon.

Norrie won 73 per cent of his first service points and broke serve five times to secure victory in one hour and three minutes. He has capped a dominant 26-4 run since late July.

“I tried to play smart and compete with every point. From the start of the match, I just wanted it to be intense and play it safe through the middle. If the ball was there to be hit, just hit it. I played smart and used the drop shot when I needed to, into the wind. It was a very good play for me and I think he was a little rattled with the wind. I got the hang of it in the second set,” Norrie was pleased with his performance

He earned $14,400 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points, now enjoying a new career high World No. 111.

Earlier in the day, with Brydan Klein and Joe Salisbury a British team was also successful in Stockton. The tandem beat Denis Kudla from the United States and Mikelia Libietis of Latvia 6-2, 6-4 to take the doubles title. The final lasted 55 minutes.
