Tennys Sandgren and Tim Smyczek set an all-US-American singles final at the $75,000 Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger held at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
Top seed Sandgren edged past seventh favourite Michael Mmoh 6-4, 6-4. The World No. 96 sent down 10 aces, winning 77 per cent of his first service points. Sandgren broke serve three times to advance in one hour and 24 minutes.
Tim Smyczek overcame Stefan Kozlov 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. The unseeded from Florida capitalized on five of his nine break point opportunities to prevail after one hour and 56 minutes.
Smyczek won both previous meetings with Sandgren, who could clinch his third ATP Challenger title of the season following his triumphs in Tempe and Savannah. Smyczek eyes lifting his first trophy since 2015.
