Andrey Rublev of Russia and Hyon Chung from Korea will compete in the very first Next Gen ATP Finals title match at the the Fiera Milano on Sunday.

In the opening match Rublev eased past Borna Coric 4-1, 4-3(6), 4-1. In the encounter between two of the three ATP champions appearing in Milan this week, Rublev dominated the action against a tired Croat, who finished his last round-robin match around midnight the day before.

The 20-year-old Russian saved the only break point he faced, converting two of his own to advance in only 62 minutes.

“This has been my best tennis of the week so far. I’m really happy, and I hope that I can show an even better game tomorrow,” Rublev was pleased with his performance.

“I will try to play my game, trying to dictate, because I wasn’t playing that aggressive in the opening march here. I didn’t play well. I was missing a lot. So I hope I can improve my game tomorrow.”

Chung Wins Late-Night-Thriller

Later in the evening, Chung made it into his first ATP World Tour final with a thrilling 4-1, 4-1, 3-4(4), 1-4, 4-0 victory over Daniil Medvedev of Russia. The 21-year-old Korean seemed to be in control of the match until the third set, when Medvedev showed his fighting spirit and comeback qualities. He took the match the distance but the momentum changed again and Chung secured victory, converting his second match point after one hour and 51 minutes.

“It was very tough today, as Daniil served really well. Fortunately my return was good and I stayed calm during the decisive stages,” Chung told.

Chung won all two previous meetings with Rublev. The last one took place only four days ago, when the Korean openend his Milan campaign with a straight-sets victory over the Russian in the Group Stage. Although there are no ATP-ranking points at stake, the winner will leave Italy with $225,000 in prize money. Chung could even add $25,000, receiving an undefeated champion bonus.
