Jung Upsets McDonald To Complete KPSF Open Quarterfinals Line-Up

SAN FRANCISCO, February 9, 2018

World No. 205 Jason Jung headlined second round action at the $100,000 Kunal Patel San Francisco Open on Thursday. The 28-year-old from Chinese Taipei knocked out No. 2 seed Mackenzie McDonald of the United States 1-6, 7-6, 6-2.

Jung, who was born in California and reached a career high World No. 143 in October 2016, converted four of his nine break point opportunities to prevail after one hour and 48 minutes. Next up for Jung will be sixth seed Noah Rubin. The 21-year-old US-American cruised past qualifier Jared Hiltzik 6-1, 6-4 in just under one hour of play.

No. 7 seed Filip Peliwo defeated US-American teenager Danny Thomas, who entered the main draw with a wild card, 6-3, 6-2. The World No. 24 from Canada sent down four aces, winning 70 per cent of his first service point to advance in 62 minutes. Peliwo will next take on Dennis Novikov from the United States, who overcame a one set deficit against Daniel Elahi Galan from Colombia, winning 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
