NÜRNBERG, February 14, 2018

Carina Witthöft is set to return to the Nürnberger Versicherungscup, held from 19 to 26 May 2018 at the venue of the 1.Fc Nürnberg. The 22-year-old from Hamburg almost made it into the semis of the $250,000 WTA International event last year but missed five match points in the stage of the final eight against eventual runner-up Barbora Krejcikova.

“Carina swept the audience in most of her matches and has become a real fan favourite,” said tournament organizer Sandra Reichel.

“Last year, Carina Witthöft convinced us with her tactically clever game. For the courage to change her tennis and to introduce new training priorities, she was rewarded at the end of the season in Luxembourg with her first WTA title. We look forward to watching her in action again,” Dr. Armin Zitzmann, CEO of NÜRNBERGER Versicherung, added.

Witthöft also clinched 11 singles titles and one doubles title on the ITF Pro Circuit. In January 2018, she reached her best singles ranking of World No. 48.
