LOULÉ, March 14, 2018
Frederico Ferreira Silva is the champion of the $15,000 Loulé Open, the third ITF Pro Circuit men’s event held on Portuguese soil this season. The 22-year-old local favourite benefited from the retirement of Spaniard David Vega Hernandez in Monday’s singles final held at the hard courts of the Club de Tenis de Loulé.
Ferreira Silva was leading 5-7, 6-1, 3-1 when Vega Hernandez was forced to stop playing after two hours and 29 minutes. The left-hander from Caldas da Rainha clinched his second title this year following his other triumph on home soil in Vale Do Lobo last week. The World No. 337 earns $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points.
Roberto Ortega-Olmedo and David Vega Hernandez took the trophies. The Spaniards defeated the all-Austrian-combination of Maximilian Neuchrist and David Pichler in the final 4-6, 6-4, 10-3.
