Bourgue Wins Bakersfield Tennis Open

BAKERSFIELD, March 19, 2018

Top seed Mathias Bourgue of France captured the title of the $25,000 Bakersfield Tennis Open held on the hard courts of the Bakersfield Racquet Club. The 24-year-old from Avignon defeated the tournament’s No. 3 Jan Choinski of Germany 6-2, 6-3 in Sunday afternoon’s singles final.

Bourgue sent down five aces, winning 56 per cent of his first service points. The World No. 241 broke his opponent’s serve five times to seal victory in one hour and five minutes.

Bourgue clinched the title, his 10th on the ITF Pro Circuit, without dropping a set. He takes away $3,600 in prize money as well as 25 ATP ranking points.

Earlier in the day, Bernardo Saraiva of Portugal and Dutchman Sem Verbeek took the doubles trophies. The tandem beat the Bolivian top seeds Boris Arias and Federico Zeballos 7-6, 6-3. The final lasted one hour and 16 minutes.
