Hungarian teenager Mate Valkusz captured his maiden title on the ITF Pro Circuit during the second stop of the ISTARSKA RIVIJERA, a three-week clay-court-swing and oldest international tennis event held in Croatia. The 19-year-old from Budapest eased past Dragos Dima of Romania 6-0, 6-3 in Sunday’s final at Tenis Centre Pical in Porec.
Valkusz didn’t lose his serve, converting four of his own 12 break point chances to prevail after one hour and 11 minutes. En route to the title, the World No. 740 dropped only one set in the quarterfinals against Matteo Viola of Italy. He earns $1,944 in prize money as well as 18 ATP Ranking points.
Valkusz will stay in Istria for another week taking on local favourite Nino Serdarusic in the opening round of the $15,000 clay court event in Opatija.
