QUIJING, March 25, 2018
Top seed Malek Jaziri captured the title of the PBT Cup Challenger Tour Quijing, held on hard courts in the eastern Yunnan province of southwest China. The World No. 98 from Tunisia defeated in Sunday’s singles final Blaz Rola of Slovenia 7-6, 6-1.
Jaziri saved all of the five break points he faced, capitalized on both of his own to secure victory in one hour and 34 minutes.
The 34-year-old preferred playing the ATP Challenger swing in Asia instead of going to Indian Wells and Miami. Jaziri, who had made it to the final four of the ATP 500 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships last month, advanced to the quarterfinals in Zhuahi and Shenzhen after his great run in the desert.
By lifting his eighth ATP Challenger career trophy, Jaziri took away $10,800 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points. He is projected to break into the top 90 next week.
