Daniel Brands of Germany caps a strong week in Tunisia by clinching the singles title and finishing runner-up in doubles at the Djerba Open 2018, a series of $15,000 Futures event held on hard courts at the Hotel Jerba Sun Club. The 30-year-old German edged past Argentine qualifier Nicolas Mateo Martinez 7-6, 7-5 in Sunday’s singles final.
Brands struck five aces, winning 71 per cent of his first service points to prevail after exactly two hours of play. The World No. 431 clinched his fifth ITF Pro Circuit career title without dropping a set and takes away $1,944 in prize money as well as 18 ATP Ranking points.
“I think i did a good job. I tried to play my game very aggressive and it worked out for me,” Brands told.
On Saturday, teamed up with Daniel Appelgren of Sweden to face Frenchmen Dan Added and Hugo Voljacques for the doubles title. The duo lost to the top seeds 6-3, 6-3. The final lasted one hour and nine minutes.
“This is our first time playing together but we did very well coordinating our plays, we hope to win on next tournament as well,” the champions stated.
