Sunday’s singles final of the BMW Open by FWU will feature an all-German-affair when No. 1 seed Alexander Zverev will take on three-time Munich champion Philipp Kohlschreiber.

In front of packed stands, Zverev advanced to his second title match of the season with a comfortable 7-5, 6-2 victory over #NextGenATP champion Hyeon Chung on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos. The 21-year-old showed a solid performance, winning 64 per cent of his first service points. Zverev broke his opponent five times to clinch his first win over the Korean young gun at senior’s level in the pair’s third tour meeting.

“I played a decent match today, tactically very well,” Zverev was pleased with his game. “I played a couple of shots with a lot of spin. Chung doesn’t like that, in particular on clay. I think that’s why he made mistakes. As a professional tennis player you sometimes have to change your style in order to win. This helped me a lot today.”

Kohlschreiber eyes fourth Munich title

Later in the day, Kohlschreiber defeated Maximilian Marterer, who appeared in first ATP World Tour semi-final, 6-2, 6-4. The 34-year-old from Augsburg capitalized on four of the six break points he faced to secure victory in one hour and five minutes. It was Kohlschreiber’s 33rd match win in the capital city of Bavaria.

“It’s going to be a tough match,” Zverev commented on the upcoming final. “Philipp has been in multiple finals here, won the title multiple times as well, so it’s not going to be easy.”

No. 2 seeds Rajeev Ram from the United States and Ivan Dodig from Croatia will open Centre Court action on Sunday facing Nikola Mektic of Croatia and Austria’s Alexander Peya for the doubles crown. The singles final will be played not before 1:30 pm local time.
