Anastasija Sevastova and Tatjana Maria will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Mallorca Open. The No. 3 seed from Latvia advanced to the title match at Santa Ponsa tennis club for the third consecutive year.
Sevastova, the defending champion and runner-up in 2016 defeated Australian Samantha Stosur 7-6(1), 6-1. The 28-year-old capitalized on four of her 10 break point chances to prevail in hour and 16 minutes.
The World No. 20 will meet a debutant: Tatjana Maria. The 30-year-old German advanced to her first WTA final after rallying past US-American qualifier Sofia Kenin 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 in just under two hour of play.
“I am very happy to reach my first WTA final. I could almost cry,” Maria told to WTA after the match. “I think it’s the grass, actually. I love to play on the grass. I was really prepared for this grass season to do something good, and I’m happy that I did it already.”
